The Simon Family | Kansas Newborn Photographer and Filmmaker

Katrina and Danny were just like any other about-to-be-new-parents:

They wanted photos of them with their newborn, to remember how small and tiny he once was.

That’s the thing about becoming a parent: you realize that time really does fly. Children are super tiny and helpless one minute and the next, they’re heading out the door to play with the neighbor kids. And though, when they’re tiny, it doesn’t feel like time is moving fast, once you start sleeping more and they start sleeping more, it really does move quickly.

My goal with newborn in-home photo sessions is always the same: To stop time for the parents. To allow them to relive these moments over and over again.

On their best days. On their worst days. On the inbetween days, going back to those wonderfully amazing first days home, when everything was new and overwhelming and lovely and exhausting.

I spent a few hours with Katrina, Danny and Bennett (and Sprocket, of course) one Saturday morning, capturing all those beautiful little moments, in both photos and a film. The rocking, the snuggling, the tiny toes, the sleeping and the endless adoration.

It was a gift for Future Katrina and Future Danny.

And it’s a gift for Future Bennett as well, 20 years down the road. To look back over these photos and see the love in his parents eyes. And know, they felt truly blessed to be his mom and dad.

The Simons also booked a Family Film and honestly, I think every Newborn Photo Session should have a film included with it. Can you even imagine, as their little one gets older, they have documented these first few weeks with him in a way that no photo can convey. Think of how they might watch this with him for years to come, as he grows older, they’ll still have these sweet, tiny moments from his first week at home. Click the photo below to watch their film and just melt with me, over these small and beautiful moments.
